A one-page solopreneur business plan template

A one-person business does not need a 30-page plan. It needs a single page you can read every Monday and update as you learn. Copy the template below into a document and fill it in honestly; anything you cannot fill in is your next task.

The template

BUSINESS NAME:

1. PROBLEM
Who has it, what hurts, how often, what it costs them:

2. CUSTOMER
Role or trade + size / place / situation:
Three real people who fit:

3. OFFER
What they get:
Price and how they pay (one-off / monthly / per job):

4. CHANNEL
Where I will reach them:
Weekly action and number (e.g. 15 messages a week):

5. NUMBERS
Monthly profit I need:
Monthly costs:
Sales needed per month = (profit + costs + tax allowance) ÷ price:

6. FIRST 90 DAYS
Days 1–14: validate (10 conversations, 3 paid commitments)
Days 15–45: deliver to first customers by hand; collect feedback
Days 46–90: systemise what works; ask for referrals and reviews

7. RISKS AND ASSUMPTIONS
The one assumption that would sink this if wrong:
How I will test it this month:

8. UK ADMIN
Structure (sole trader / limited company):
HMRC / Companies House registration done:
Separate bank account:
Terms and privacy notice:
Insurance needed?

How to fill it in well

  • Use numbers everywhere you can, even estimates, and mark guesses so you remember to check them.
  • Name a real channel and a weekly volume, not "social media".
  • Keep the price honest: work out whether the sales needed per month are realistic for one person.
  • Rewrite the page after every 10 customer conversations.
